Beaches on the Cotes d'Armour, Brittany

Almost anywhere on the coast is beautiful in this part of Brittany, and you can drive to the nearest point around St Jacut (2.12W:48.36N) in about 30 minutes. There are dozens of small, secluded bays and beaches around the coast and the 'Geographique' maps are invaluable in finding these spots. The places listed below are some of the larger resorts, which our visitors have enjoyed.

St Val Andre - (2.34 W:48.35 N)

Val Andre Beach One of the largest seaside towns in the area. Busy but very attractive with a pleasant promenade backing the enormous golden beach.

There is a beach club for the children and ice cream parlours, souvenir shops and Casino. There is a large free car park adjacent to the Casino on the seafront and another in the town just behind the front. Good toilet facilities on the promenade.

The small port at the eastern end is very attractive and has a small car park facing the offshore rock, which is a nature reserve. Good place to just sit and watch or to fish off the rocks.

Erquy, and nearby Plage de Caroual - (2.28 W:48.38 N)

Erquy Beach Children will love this large beach with rock pools and beautiful sands.

Not too commercialised with just a cafe nearby and good toilet and shower in the large, free car park.

There are numerous bars and restaurants housed in the old port-side cottages.

St Cast - (2.15 W:48.38 N)

St Cast Beach St-Cast-Le-Guildo is particularly nice if you want a mixture of good beach and commercial facilities. Beach club for the children. Plenty of restaurants and cafes in the small town behind the promenade. Lovely views from the headland above the town and from the car park at Pen Guen as you approach the town on the coast road from the south - there is a small sign indicating Pointe du Bay. Limited free parking on the seafront. Toilets right at the northern end of the promenade.

Sable d'Or - (2.25 W:48.38 N)

Sable d'Or Beach Sable-d'Or-Les-Pins (2.25mW:48.38mN) - a vast sandy beach. A bit commercialised but fun for the family with bicycles of all sizes and shapes to carry from two to six people!

There are plenty of ice cream parlours etc and a general store. This resort is very busy in the season but big enough to cope with the crowds. Avoid in windy weather as it is a bit exposed. Plenty of free parking but even this gets full in the peak season.
